Number 2 yes, but a very distant second. In 1988 Datamation listed the top companies and their revenue. You had to add DEC and the next 4 companies (including HP) to get the same revenue as IBM (wish I could find a copy of the mag)

Equally interesting is that DEC never figured in the BUNCH so was never really considered a competitor in the mainframe market
